As everyone was smiling and celebrating the moment John Luna signed with TMC Golf, John could not help but reflect on the road that he had traveled to get there.
"My dream was to Golf at either the NCAA Division 1 or 2 levels," John said. He had offers from Peidmont, and the University of North Georgia among others. "I had actually verbally committed to North Georgia College and State University but I did not qualify academically out of high school so I had to change my plans a little," he said. What he ended up doing, at the advising of his high school coach and his youth pastor, was enrolling at Truett McConnell College where he would get the academic foundation he needed and then move on to play golf elsewhere.
But according to John, as he spent more time at TMC God began working in his heart. "When I got to Truett I started to feel like I was running from God's will by trying to go somewhere bigger. I began to realize that was my plan not His and He began to show me in some small ways that His plan was for me to be at TMC."
And those small ways led to a huge decision, not just for John but for the TMC Golf Program. Coach Dusty Rogers is thrilled to have John at TMC. "John is a tremendous addition to our program. Not just as a Golfer but as a young man of Faith. He is the kind of young man that represents what we want our program to be," Coach Rogers said. "John is one of the most talented players Truett has signed to play Golf as a Bear. We are excited and blessed to have him here."
And John shares the same enthusiasm. "I am excited to about being part of the team at Truett and being part of something bigger than myself. I want to do my best and work hard and challenge my teammates to be better. Most importantly I want to glorify God through the game of Golf."
