In their first match of the season, the Bears Golf teams competed at the Piedmont Fall Invitational at The Orchard.  It was their first taste of competition this year: the flavor was strong on the talent side.

The men's team competed against the reining NCAA Division 3 National Champions from Oglethorpe, among other accomplished teams.  On the lady's side, the competition was just as tough with the field containing Methodist, who won their 15th consecutive national championship last year.

Head Coach Dusty Rogers felt like going up against a strong field was a good place to start this season.  "It was a tough field, but we were able to see early what our weaknesses are and where we need to be going forward," Rogers said.  As the season moves on, both Bears golf teams are looking to build on their experience this weekend.  "Moving forward, we have some room for improvement, and we need to concentrate on getting better each week," Rogers said.

For the men's team, it was Josh Foster who led the way.  "Josh played well and led us on both days," coach Rogers said.

On the lady's team, it was Courtney Watts whose play put her out in front.   "Courtney played well for us this weekend.  She led us in overall score for the match.   We are looking for both of these players to improve as we go forward and to challenge their teamates to be better," Rogers said.

There were a few team members on the men's team who were not available for play this weekend.  "We have some guys who will be joining our team in the coming weeks that will help us going forward," Rogers said.  "We are looking forward to competing at a higher level as the season progresses."
