The Truett-McConnell Cross Country team hosted their first home meet in five years this past Saturday in front of a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters. The men's team did not disappoint the home crowd as they cruised to a decisive win.
"It felt good to win our first race of the year," said Head Coach Jarret Holland. "Today was a good day for our program. It's been a few years since we've hosted a race and it felt good to run in front of our home crowd. I felt like our guys ran extremely well as a team and we should continue to get stronger as we move forward. Injuries have plagued us all year and if we could ever get healthy, we should be a contender before years end."
The Bears were led by Luis Gonzalez who finished 2nd overall with a time of 30:59. He was followed closely by Cale Pirtle who placed 3rd with a time of 31:40. Kingsley Cajuste grabbed a 5th place finish with a time of 32:00, thus giving the Bears 3 of the top 5 spots in the overall finishing order. Kevin Kesler (7th overall; 32:14) and Joshua Kesler (16th overall; 34:42) rounded out the scoring for the men.
Truett-McConnell's next meet will be on Saturday, September 29th on the campus of Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina. The Bears have won 2 of the last 3 races they have entered at SWU. The men are scheduled to run at 9:45 a.m.
