The Lady Bears soccer team went on the road today against Spring Hill College and came away with a 2-1 win and their first SSAC conference win of the year.
The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Sarah Murphy and Joely Cook with one each. Murphy was able to take advantage of a bad pass by a Spring Hill defender and finished the breakaway by putting the ball past the keeper in the 25th minute of the game. Spring Hill was able to tie the game at 1-1 in the 75th minute but the Bears came right back just 36 seconds later when Cook put a 10-yard shot into the goal.
Bears keeper Emily Bechke picked up the win in the goal with 9 saves on the day and only one goal against.
Head Coach David McDowell was pleased with his teams effort in the win. "We played well and controlled the first half. We had worked this week on movement up front and our strikers were creating some good opportunities with thier movement," McDowell said. McDowell also felt like his team "did a good job of withstanding Spring Hills punch in the second half and we were able to quickly respond after they equalized the game with what turned out to be the game winner."
The Bears will go up against University of Mobile Saturday, September 29th at 5:00pm in Mobile, Alabama.
