Central, SC.  --- The Truett-McConnell Cross Country team traveled to Central, SC this past Saturday to compete in the Southern Wesleyan Invitational. The women's team ran amongst the front runners on their way to a 3rd place finish overall.

"I was very impressed with the intensity our girls brought to the table today," said Head Coach Jarret Holland. "The girls have continued to improve with each passing week this season. Last week, at our home meet, we competed against several of the same teams we saw this weekend and they beat us by a large margin. That was not the case today, as we closed the scoring gap tremendously. As long as we continue to work and train hard in practice, I feel that we'll be amongst the front runners by the time our conference meet rolls around."

The Bears were led by Brittany Wells who finished 5th with a time of 20:08. This was the forst top-five by a female Truett-McConnell Bear in three seasons. "Brittany ran really well for us, said Head Coach Jarret Holland. I've been really pleased with the effort Brittany has put forth all year. She practices hard and that bleeds over into the races. I feel like her and Hannah give us a good 1-2 punch at the top of our order, but we're going to need the rest of our girls to live up to pre-season expectations in order to win big at the end of the year."

Wells was followed was followed closely by Hannah Barnes who placed 11th with a time of 20:46.  Lauren Tosky finished 17th with a time of 21:24, thus giving the Bears 3 finishers inside the top 20. Savannah Cartee (22rd overall; 21:40) and Ashley Tosky (30th overall; 22:04) rounded out the scoring for the ladies.

Truett-McConnell's next meet will be on Saturday, October 13th on the campus of Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The ladies are scheduled to run at 11:00 a.m.
