"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith." Galatians 6:9-10 (ESV)
Beginning the first few weeks of August, before the new and returning students poured onto campus for the Fall 2012 semester, God was at work to bring restoration to the baseball field of Truett-McConnell College. The field was in need of a few improvements, but these improvements can be costly. However, the Lord often raises up men and women to contribute to the ministry, and that's exactly what He did!
While the baseball coach, Coach Mike Croley, was at the Cleveland Hardware and Builder's Supply, Shawna Garrett, an employee of the store, suggested that Coach Croley contact Ralph Grizzle of Grizzle Trucking, concerning the baseball field. The next thing he knew, Ralph and his son, Chad, were at the field taking the lead on the renovations, with joy and great attention to detail.
Ralph and Chad Grizzle, owners of Grizzle Trucking, were instrumental in coordinating the various donations that were to flow out of the generous hearts of the donors. In addition to supplying sand, a portion of the mortar, and additional stone for the backstop, as well as a number of other supplies, Grizzle Trucking transported all of the materials for free. Frances Hatcher of Cleveland Hardware and Builder's Supply donated twenty-five bags of mortar, Lowes of Cornelia donated twenty Leyland Cypress trees, David Dollar of Suncrest Stone donated stone, Jeff Murry rewired the electrics, and Web Anderson applied the stone at a reduced rate, thus completing the dugouts and backstop renovation.
Tommy Granada of Hanson Aggregates donated the #89 stone for the walk way to the field, Joe Shoffeitt painted the gold trim around the dugouts for free, and Al Garcia of the sign shop made signs at no cost to the school. John Haddan also donated his time and equipment by digging a drainage ditch so that the field would not flood when it rained.
The Truett-McConnell baseball program would like to thank all the men and women who have given so much of their time and resources to help improve their facility. The work could not have been completed without your help!
